St. Ouens Bay is the longest beach in Jersey, spanning nearly the full length of the island's west coast which is around 5 miles. It is a popular surfing beach with a cafe/restaurant and surf shack at the Watersplash. Situated 5 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from the town of St. Helier, St Ouens beach is very popular with tourists. Miles of golden sands and plenty of parking room mean its easy to get to and there's always room on the sand. At high tide, the sea reaches right the way up to the sea wall.
The beach Catches the sun for most of the day but there is little shelter except when the wind is blowing easterly. Even then - only bathers right up by the sea wall will benefit.
Strong Atlantic winds often produce excellent surfing conditions, and the beach is very popular with surfers. There is a designated surfing zone half way down the beach. Swimming can be treacherous here because of rip tides and strong currents. Make sure you notice the flags and warning signs, and don't swim in the restricted areas.
