Acton Burnell Castle (Shropshire)

Acton Burnell Castle

Acton Burnell Castle - The red sandstone shell of a semi-fortified tower house, built between 1284-93 by Bishop Burnell, Edward I's Lord Chancellor. Parliaments were twice held here, in 1283 and 1285.  Acton Burnell Hall is now a school, but access to the castle and church is permitted at any reasonable time.
